Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope…(Psalm 119:49)

Lamentations 3:19-27

I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
I remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,
to the one who seeks him;
it is good to wait patiently for the salvation of the Lord.
It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Daniel 3:16-18

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

Psalm 139:7-12

Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?

Jeremiah 15:18-21

Why is my pain unending and my wound grievous and incurable? Will you be to me like a deceptive brook, like a spring that fails? Therefore, this is what the Lord says: “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me; if you utter worthy, not worthless, words, you will be my spokesman. Let this people turn to you, but you must not turn to them. I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the Lord.  “I will save you from the hands of the wicked and redeem you from the grasp of the cruel.”

Romans 8:9-11

You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.  

2 Corinthians 1:3-11

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about the hardships we suffered in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired even of life. Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

2 Corinthians 5:6-10 

Therefore we are always confident and know that as long as we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord. We live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

2 Corinthians 6:4-10

Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonor, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known, yet regarded as unknown; dying, and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

Psalm 34:17-22

The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;      
he delivers them from all their troubles.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted      
and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 
A righteous man may have many troubles,      
but the LORD delivers him from them all; 
he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. 
Evil will slay the wicked;      
the foes of the righteous will be condemned. 
The LORD redeems his servants;      
no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.

Isaiah 43:1-2  

But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”

Psalm 63:6-8 

On my bed I remember you;      
I think of you through the watches of the night. 
Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 
My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 103:2-5, 11-13

Praise the LORD, O my soul,      
and forget not all his benefits-who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit      
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Psalm 71:18

Psalm 116:1-15

I love the LORD, for he heard my voice;

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Isaiah 57:1-2

The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart;

and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.

they find rest as they lie in death.

Zephaniah 3:17

The LORD your God is with you,

Habakkuk 3:17-19

Though the fig tree does not bud      
and there are no grapes on the vines,      
though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food,      
though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the LORD, 
I will be joyful in God my Savior.

The Sovereign LORD is my strength;      
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,      
he enables me to go on the heights.

    Thank you for these verses. I found them tonight as I was searching for comfort for my distress. My husband needs encouragement too, and I will share these verses with him. He is under more financial pressure than he can bear. I am concerned for his physical and spiritual health. I want to be there for him, but I don’t have any answers; and I am afraid I have become a source of frustration for him. I pray that God will strengthen us in our trials as he strengthened you through yours. Blessings to you.

    I came to this site looking for encouragement and found it. I have a daughter who is 22 weeks pregnant and has been hospitalized because her water broke 2 weeks ago. She also has placenta previa and a hematoma. She has been away from the Lord for a long time and knows that she is now dealing with the consequences of her past. Though there is not much hope that the baby will survive, we do know that God’s will is gracious and right and that nothing happens to us without first being filtered through His hand. Pray for restoration.

      Dear Nana, you are right. If God were to recount all our sins, who can stand before him. But he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger. I pray for God’s righteousness shining upon your daughter with healing in its wings.

    I too came to this website seeking comfort for troubled times. I have a son that is falling faster and faster away. But I was not a good influence on him while he was growing up. Although he always knew I believed in God, I never proved that in deeds. We rarely went to church while he was young and he came across an encounter that discourage from the Lord and the church. I didn’t do much to rectify it. He has grown up and grown away. I have come back to the Lord to seek redemption for myself and pray for him. He is now in a dire situation financially and spiritually. My heart aches for him. This page has helped to comfort my troubled soul. Thank you for the site and please say a prayer in our behalf. Thanks

  7. Just what I needed this evening. Especially 2 Corinthians 4:16-18. No matter my circumstances, I am determined not to lose heart. With purposeful determination, I am choosing to fix my eyes on what is not seen. Thank God for the eternal wonder of it all.

    My friend who I have known for 36 years has terminal cancer. I’m strong in faith and believe even terminal illness can be healed. But she is not strong and has only come to Christ recently. So she has a lot of doubt that she can be healed. I’ve told her Bible stories of great suffering in which God has healed. But still she is in the stage of why me. I came across these scriptures while trying to find something for her. But in the process they actually have helped me so much.
